Zynga Pursues a Patent on an On-Device Game Engine Architecture

U.S. patent application, US20220088483, discloses a game server that receives data associated with the gameplay of one or more user accounts that are used for playing a designated game. The game server computes, for one or more user accounts, a player model representing the previous in-game behavior of the user accounts. The game server identifies, based on the player model, configuration values specifying operation for the designated game. The configuration values represent at least one of the game mechanics configuration and a game parameter configuration. The game server causes transmission of the configuration values to a client device that causes the client device to adjust a game engine at the client device based on the previous in-game behavior of the user accounts. The figure below illustrates a game event and one of a plurality of game levels forming the game event.

Novartis Seeks a Patent for CAR-Expressing Cells Against Multiple Tumor Antigens

U.S. patent application, US20220089750, relates to the use of immune effector cells (e.g. T cells, NK cells) engineered to conditionally express an agent which enhances the immune effector response, (e.g. a Chimeric Antigen Receptor (CAR)) for the treatment of disease such as cancer.

Abbott Wants to Patent Devices for Fluid Actuation

U.S. patent application, US20220091146, discloses an integrated digital microfluidic and analyte detection device for fluid actuation with reduced or minimized lid deflection for performing analyte analysis. The device includes a pair of substrates and a pair of electrode arrays that generate electrical actuation forces to urge one droplet within a gap between the substrates. The figure below illustrates the integrated device with a spacer placed in an interstitial area to maintain the gap between the substrates.

Merck Aims to Patent Highly Concentrated Protein Formulations with Reduced Viscosity

U.S. patent application, US20220088200, discloses compositions of highly concentrated protein formulations showing reduced viscosity. Good-viscosity lowering effects of the formulations are achieved by combining the protein solution with a viscosity-reducing concentration of an excipient, where different additives result in the best stabilization and reduction in viscosities of protein formulations.

Medtronic Files a Patent for a Ventricular Assist Device and a Cardiac Electrical Stimulation System for Therapy Control

U.S. patent application, US20220088366, discloses a medical device system that includes a cardiac electrical stimulation device and a ventricular assist device (VAD) to cooperatively monitor or control the therapies delivered to a patient. The stimulation device and the VAD can communicate with each other to confirm the detection of cardiac events followed by adjusting or delivering a therapy to alleviate or terminate the cardiac event. The figure below illustrates the medical device system including an ICD and VAD and blood pump of the VAD.

Roche Seeks to Patent Non-Replicative Transduction Particles for Detection of Acinetobacter Baumannii

U.S. patent application, US20220090094, discloses compositions comprising novel bacteriophages specific to A. baumannii that have a broad host range within this species. The production of the non-replicative transduction particles (NRTPs) that exhibit specificity for A. baumannii is derived from the genomes of novel bacteriophages. The figure below shows TEM images of the novel bacteriophage Abi 33 lysate containing 2 populations of Myoviridae phages.

Boston Scientific Files a Patent for a Biopsy Device

U.S. patent application, US20220087660, relates to a biopsy device for tissue sample acquisition. The device includes an elongate member having an insert placed within its lumen, where the insert is configured to mate with a needle to maintain a rotational orientation of the needle, and a helical component placed in the needle lumen to acquire and retain tissue samples. The figure below illustrates a distal portion of a biopsy device.

PayPal Eyes a Patent for a Method for Implementing Access Control Based on Location-Based Cookies

U.S. patent application, US20220094754, discloses a method for activating an appropriate set of web cookies based on the location of a communication device. The method includes deactivating the set of web cookies designated for that specific location when the communication device exits the specific location. The location-based web cookies provide appropriate privacy for the user while performing online payment transactions.

Intel Seeks a Patent for a Self-Healing Network of Infrastructure Processing Units

U.S. patent application, US20220094590, describes a self-healing Infrastructure Processing Unit (IPU) network that manages clusters of other processing units (XPUs) by seamlessly migrating the IPU responsibilities to another IPU in a networked environment (such as a data center). A central resource manager is used to monitor the health of the IPUs in the data center and if a failure occurs then the event is located to another IPU, where the replacement and workload migration of a failed XPU is managed with a remote XPU. The figure below illustrates a network environment implementing compute nodes coupled to communicate with the resource manager.

Apple Aims to Patent a Magnetically Attachable Wallet

U.S. patent application, US20220087389, discloses a magnetically attachable wallet that adds new functionality to an electronic device. The wallet includes a back panel and a front panel that is attached along two sides and a bottom thereby forming a throat at the top of the wallet which accesses an interior compartment. The wallet includes a subassembly in the back panel that has a magnet array for attaching to a surface of an electronic device. The figure below illustrates the magnetically attachable wallet.

Microsoft Files a Patent for Automatically Adding Sound Effects into Audio Files

U.S. patent application, US20220093082, describes a method for automatically adding sound effects into an audio file. One trigger word is identified from text content corresponding to the audio file and the context information of the one trigger word is determined from the text content. The method decides based on the context information of that one trigger word, that sound effect addition is applicable to the trigger word. A sound effect corresponding to the trigger word is selected from a sound effect library and that sound effect is integrated into the audio file. The figure below depicts the exemplary schemes for integrating sound effects into the audio file.
